History
Past: The firm traces its roots to Mancini, Alkateeb & Associates,
Inc., a consulting engineering firm, founded in 1988 by Peter Mancini and Joe
Alkateeb. In 2006, after the retirement of Joe and Pete, the firm changed its
name to MA Engineering to reflect the new ownership while maintaining its
connection to its founders.
Present:
Salim Sessine, P.E. joined the firm in 1996 and brought with him a vast
background in the design of government and healthcare facilities. Over the past
ten years at MAE, Salim has broadened his experience and established
relationships within the architecture, engineering and construction community.
In 2004 Salim became the President of Mancini, Alkateeb & Associates
Inc.
Scott Wheeler, P.E joined the firm in 2004 as the Director of Electrical
Engineering and brought over 15 years of broad electrical engineering background
with him in research laboratories, university, healthcare, government,
commercial and corporate office experience.
John Richards, P.E. joined the firm in 2005 as the Director of Operations for
MAE. John has over 20 years of experience in management and mechanical design of
municipal, office, healthcare, commercial, laboratory, transportation,
automotive and industrial projects including Ford Field and the McNamara
Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. John is a past President of the
Detroit Chapter of ASHRAE.
The firm history spans over 30 years in the consulting field. We have a current
staff of 20, which has grown from one registered engineer to over 30% of our
technical staff being registered. Our work has varied in scope from consulting
by single individuals to projects exceeding $60,000,000.
Future: Under Salim, John and Scott's leadership, MA Engineering will
continue to provide quality consulting and engineering services emphasizing
customer service, excellence in engineering and value to our clients.
Skills
MA Engineering has developed a broad range of skills and services extending from
the mechanical and electrical engineering base. MAE is knowledgeable on the
latest codes, standards, energy saving techniques and sustainable design
including LEED documentation. We utilize computer programs and the internet to
assist in energy calculations and validation, HVAC load calculations, acoustic
analysis, pressure calculations, lighting calculations and equipment selection.
We understand each client is different, and provide an appropriate level of
analysis for each project.
Green Design
MAE has a LEED Accredited Professional. We are currently working on several
projects with LEED involvement. We are part of a team working for the US
Department of Interior to provide Value Engineering services and LEED
Certification assessment for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the National Park
Service. We are also currently working in the country of Trinidad, performing
independent commissioning and pursuing LEED Certification of buildings.

optimizes their resources.
Cost Control
Designs that exceed financial resources, either in construction or over the life
of the building, are not successful solutions. Cost efficiency is assured at MAE
through a coordinated system of early cost estimating, separate element design,
independent cost estimates, life cycle costing, and special attention to energy
conservation issues.
Balanced Approach
As
a firm we take great pride in providing "Hands-On Service". Our
Principals and Senior Engineers are involved in every project, regardless of
size. We can provide analysis, planning and management skills to interface
directory with a client's internal planning. We also have the knowledge,
resources and experience to work with the client as part of a larger team in a
conventional design-bid-build, construction management or design-build approach.
